Transforming Olympia Events’ Banners into a Bright Future for The Space

Event Cycle recently teamed up with Olympia Events in London to repurpose several roller banners that had fulfilled their original purpose. As a major events venue, Olympia Events approached us with a straightforward request: find a way to give these banners a second life. The solution? Redirecting them to a worthy cause — The Space, a theatre on the Isle of Dogs.

Crafting a Sustainable Solution

In keeping with our dedication to sustainability, we sought to ensure that every component of these banners would be reused or responsibly recycled. Partnering with our trusted graphics supplier, we removed the old graphics from the roller banners and replaced them with new, vibrant designs tailored to the needs of a deserving charity: The Space.

The metal bases of the roller banners, which were still in excellent condition, were cleaned, repaired where necessary, and prepared to host the new graphics. Meanwhile, the PVC material from the old banners was recycled through specialised channels, ensuring that nothing went to waste. This approach minimised the environmental impact while maximising the utility of the materials.

The Beneficiary: The Space

The Space, a theatre located on the Isle of Dogs and managed by St Paul’s Arts Trust, was the perfect recipient for the repurposed banners.

As an organisation committed to increasing access to the arts and supporting new artists, The Space provides vital opportunities for local residents and artists alike. From hosting live performances and delivering workshops to organising arts festivals and special events, The Space is a cornerstone of cultural life in its community.

With patrons like Sir Ian McKellen and Marie McLaughlin, The Space has a prestigious reputation, but like many arts organisations, it relies heavily on support from its community and partners. The repurposed banners will be used to promote the charity at events, encouraging sign-ups and engagement from the local community and beyond.

Amplifying Impact

By repurposing Olympia Events’ roller banners, Event Cycle not only helped reduce waste but also provided The Space with valuable resources to support their mission. These banners will now play a crucial role in raising awareness for the charity, attracting more visitors, supporters, and participants to their wide array of arts programs.

“We are always looking for ways in which we can reduce waste as a key objective of our sustainability programme, the Grand Plan. We were pleased to work with Event Cycle again to repurpose our roller banners, and we are delighted that they have been given a new lease of life to benefit The Space.”
Siân Richards, Head of Sustainability, Olympia Events.

The collaboration between Olympia Events, The Space, and Event Cycle is a powerful example of how the events industry can embrace sustainability while making a positive social impact. By finding new purposes for materials that might otherwise have been discarded, we are helping to create a greener, more responsible future for everyone involved.

At Event Cycle, we believe in the power of partnership to drive change. Whether you’re a venue, organiser or agency, we can help you transform surplus materials into valuable resources for communities in need.
