In April 2024, Sleek Events organised a large tech event at ExCel London showcasing the latest cloud technology innovations. The tech giant hosting the event, committed to overcoming challenges through understanding and innovation, applied its waste
management principles to the event. They focused on eliminating waste and promoting recycling and reuse.
Event Cycle, which helps events implement sustainable solutions in events, was tasked with repurposing leftover materials from the event, They ensured items like benches, cushions, graphics, astroturf, and lanyards were donated to charities and community groups, reducing waste and enhancing social impact. This initiative significantly lowered the event's carbon footprint and reinforced its commitment to sustainability.
Event Cycle provided a comprehensive report on donated items, including details on beneficiary organisations and the social and environmental impact of repurposing.
We tracked the causes and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) supported by the donations and the recipient organisations.
We tracked carbon emissions savings, including carbon emissions avoided by reusing items, reducing the need for new materials and emissions avoided by diverting items from landfill, reducing the direct carbon footprint.
We also calculated the Social Value of the donations, reflecting the savings these organisations achieve by not purchasing new items and enabling funds to be directed towards their services instead.
