Transforming Wonder’s Storage Clearance into Community Support

Wonder, a leading creative business experience agency, recently transformed a routine storage clearance in Oxfordshire into an opportunity for impactful community support. Partnering with Event Cycle, Wonder donated a diverse range of items, ensuring they found meaningful second lives with local charities and organisations.

This initiative underscores Wonder’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, proving that even operational clear-outs can create a positive legacy.

The Donations

The clearance included an array of items such as air conditioning units, collapsible tables, trolleys, lightbulbs, and reusable items like coasters and coffee cups. Event Cycle meticulously matched these items with charities and community groups that could benefit most, ensuring maximum impact.

The Organisations That Benefited

RSPCA Coventry and District: This branch of the RSPCA, focused on rescuing and rehoming animals, received air conditioning units to keep their cattery and kennels cool during warm weather. Excess units will be auctioned to raise funds for their cause. Additionally, trays and literature holders were repurposed for shelter events and for their daily operations.

SHARE Oxford: Running a "Library of Things" for the community and coordinating with local refugee and homeless support charities, SHARE Oxford added three megaphones to its inventory, which will support events like charity bike rides. An air conditioning unit will improve office comfort and community use. Other items, like metal straws and trays, will be distributed to their service users for free, promoting reuse and waste reduction.

The Air Ambulance Service: This vital service, which provides critical care and airlifts patients, received two trolleys to ease the transport of items at events and outreach activities. Women’s shirts were also donated and will serve as uniforms for the team, enhancing the professional appearance of their teams at fundraising events.

Stoke Aldermoor Community Foundation: Supporting the Stoke Aldermoor community through a food hub for those facing food poverty, this foundation also received some cargo trolleys, which are now helping to improve the efficiency of their food hub operations. Volunteers use them to handle stock and distribute food parcels with ease, reducing manual labour and increasing productivity.

“I just wanted to extend a huge thank you from all of us at the community centre to you and the entire team at Event Cycle for the donation of the cargo trolleys and for arranging their delivery to us. They’re already making a big difference in our food hub operations, helping our volunteers handle deliveries with far less strain and a lot more efficiency.
With these trolleys, we’ll be able to continue providing food parcels to those in need with even greater ease, whether we’re working with repurposed food that would otherwise go to waste or with fresh donations made possible by community support. It’s a truly valuable addition to our work, and we’re incredibly grateful for Event Cycle’s generosity and coordination in getting them to us. I’ll be sure to send photos of the trolleys in action at the Food Hub soon!”

YouTurn Futures: This charity, focused on reducing reoffending and supporting vulnerable individuals, We work with individuals on release from custodial and community sentences, their families and partner agencies. As part of their work they try to prevent offending in the first place, by supporting 16+ year old individuals that may be exploited and are at risk of entering the world of criminality. The charity received lightbulbs, a trolley, and a tray. These items are being used in their offices and events, improving logistics and creating a more welcoming atmosphere for their beneficiaries.

28th High Wycombe Scouts: The Scout group, which provides young people with skills and confidence through activities, received lightbulbs, megaphones, coat hooks and a bench to enhance their camping trips and scout hut operations. These donations will directly support their youth development programs.

A Model for Sustainable Practices

Wonder’s Oxfordshire storage clearance, in collaboration with Event Cycle, demonstrates how operational waste can be turned into a force for good. The project not only reduced landfill waste but also strengthened the work of local charities, enhancing their capacity to support their communities.

By repurposing surplus items, Wonder and Event Cycle have highlighted the potential of sustainable practices to create lasting social and environmental impact. This initiative shows that even the smallest actions can make a significant difference when approached thoughtfully.
